Jyrki TV Eric Sardinas Interview

would memorize my songs. So, I think I started writing when I was fairly young -- songs that I would make up in my head. So, yeah, I think it started pretty early.

JTV: Johnny Winter vierailee levyllasi. Hanen vaikutuksensa kuuluu niin soitossasi kuin laulussakin. Miksi?

ES: The similarities between our music is because the influence from where we're coming from with the blues stuff is more of the Delta blues/rock n' roll mixture -- as opposed to more of a Chicago style, or something like that, you know, or more of a straight Texas -- it's a little bit of both, it's a shuffle-y Delta blues style.

JTV: Bandinee sanotaan olevan "villein ja rajuin" blues-pumppu talla hetkella. Miten itse kuvailisit showtanne?

ES: I hear that stuff, too! [Laughs] People are there to feel the music, and feel like part of the music; and we project something that hopefully people, after they see the show, they remember the show. That's something... That if you feel moved by music, it's a good thing. And it definitely makes us feel good.

JTV: Sinulla on erikoisia tatuointeja. Onko niila joku tietty merkitys?

ES: It's personal, about my respect and my love for the blues, because I present my blues in a very rock n' roll and blues fashion, it just lets people know that my heart is in, you know, it's all about the blues, and my love for the blues and rock n' roll in general… But to always keep it real and true, and respect tradition.

JTV: Steve Vai balusi juuri sinut mukaan kiertueelleen. Kuikas ssina niin kavi?

ES: We ended up meeting each other at one of the performances -- at a show -- and we hooked up. This just presented itself, and we thought it was a good idea. I was lucky enough for him to say, "Hey! Come on out!" So... very cool.

JTV: Blues-ukoille on usein tuttu lause "whiskey & women." Onko backstagellasi vipinaa keikan jalkeen? (Blues lyrics are often about "whiskey & women."

ES: Oh, no! I just go home, and go to sleep! [Laughs] Yeah, we love to get on the road and have a great time every night, you know. So, all kinds of, you know... no women-juggling, no poison bottles... yet.

JTV: Nukutko munten kitaran kanssa? (You sleep with your guitar?)

ES: [Glances askance at his guitar] I do. [Laughs]

JTV: Aloititko bluesilla heti vai soititko rockia ensin?

ES: A little bit of both, I think -- a little bit of rock n' roll, a little bit of blues. I was exposed to a lot of rhythm and blues when I was young, like Ray Charles and Motown and stuff when I was very young, and I discovered Delta blues through my slow process of discovering what I loved through blues music… And I ended up going straight for Delta blues stylings as my favorite sound in blues.

JTV: Mita oma soittotyyli ja soundi sinulle merkitsee?

ES: I never learned to read music, so I always just wrote words down and
