show review by EDITH WAJSWASSER | live pictures Eric Sardinas - Toronto - Nov 13/04 Well - yay! After the hellacious week I had Saturday night couldn't come fast enough! We arrived at Healeys at about 8:10 pm (doors opened at 8:00) only to find a line up the stairs, around the corner and out the door. This surprised me cause last time we literally walked in and sat front row. We weren't as lucky this time, but we did manage to score a table second row, and the view was great for the most part. (I'll get to that...) Gotta say I finally saw Wild T & The Spirit, kind of a local legend and he was great - will definitely check him out again. The band hit the stage around 11:30 and played for 2 hours, with about a 25 minute break somewhere in there. I was really surprised to find out that most of the first half was mainly instrumental. Not too many vocals, but it was all good, as people who'd never seen Eric play had their jaws on the floor. I want to add that I finally got more people to come with me to see this incredible performer, and all agreed that he was superb. The crowd was awesome with a few exceptions...why oh why do people spend good money to go to a show, proceed to get pissed drunk, and almost ruin it for the people around them? My new "friend" Bill - decided it would be fun to stick his hand in front of my camera. I finally had enough and told him where to go - and people who know me were stunned. Add to Bill some newly of age teens who decided to dance - badly - in front of me and my patience was wearing thin. Bill did however think he was offering the chance of a lifetime when he asked if I wanted to spend the night with him - smoking pot! (I said no!) Thankfully the music took me away - and allowed me to enjoy myself. Eric plays like nobody's business. I thought after seeing him once that it would be the same old, same old. It was and it wasn't. I knew what he'd do at certain points in his show - but that didn't make it any less exciting! How he manages not to dehydrate - along with Paul & Mike - is a mystery! All in all a great night and a fabulous way to finish off what was a week from hell. I was ready to leave and wasn't going to hang around to meet the band, but lately it seems I have a horseshoe hidden somewhere, (Think The Tyler in April!) because I literally wasn't able to leave the club without talking to them! Got some pics - they'll be forwarded shortly, and chatted for a good 15 minutes. They're awesome guys, and I can't wait for them to come back. Canadian winters need some hot music to get us though the long cold nights! Ok - its now 4:30 and I am off to bed. Gotta say once again, thanks Tammy - your recommendations always rock! Love, Edith |
