In this case it's Eric Sardinas.
First off, I must say Thank You Tammy!!!! Recommending seeing Eric play and me following your recommendation was probably one of the smartest things I've done!
Let me start from the beginning, as it was a long night!
We arrived at the club at 7:00, only to find out the doors weren't opening until 8:00. But, I had to use the washroom, so they allowed me in, and who do I see? None other than Paul & Eric strolling through the empty club. My heart literally skipped a beat!
We got back to Healey's at approximately 8:15 and nabbed the very last table - right up front!!!!!! I thought to myself, are these people insane? Why would anyone not want a front row seat? Either way, the table was ours!!!
The opening act, Kevin Porter, was okay, but after a while I was getting antsy. Bring Eric on already!
Finally at 11:20...SHOWTIME!
OMG - what can I say that hasn't already been said? I want to shout from the rooftops about Eric and will sing his praises to anyone that'll listen!
Unfortunately, I cannot give you a setlist, as this was my first time hearing all his stuff. I can tell you he played Get Along Rider, Goin' To The River, I Can't Be Satisfied, Piece of Me, Texola (I think) and more, but their names escape me. (I am sorry for that!)
The band played for about 90 minutes, took a break and returned for another 45 minutes -- not counting the encore! If I may, please allow me to tell you a bit about the show...
It rocked. Straight & simple. No fancy lighting, no pyro, not needed.
The music spoke for itself. Eric plays guitar like no one I have seen before, or probably will again. (Yes, I can even compare a few of his moves to Joe [Perry]'s!) To play a guitar with a freaking beer bottle...to play it against your mic stand, to watch his fingers literally fly. I kept thinking, there's no way he's doing that... but he was, children, he was.
After the encore, we hung around, letting the room clear out a bit. I had nabbed Paul earlier, during their break, and got his autograph, but stupidly forgot my camera at the table! He is a real sweetie, a genuinely nice guy!
As the crew was clearing equipment off the stage, I see Mike Dupke, and nabbed him too! I just kinda said (and loudly too!) "Mike!" he turned, smiled and I asked him to sign my cd. He did. Cute little side note, we both pulled out Sharpies at the same time (his silver, mine black), and I challenged him to a duel! Alas I think he might have won that! He signed my cd, and we chatted for a few minutes. He loves Toronto (YAY!) and said that next time they play here they want a day off to tour the city! I offered to be their guide and he said of course!
Finally, after getting my coat from the coat check, I see a small crowd of people milling around one man - Eric.
I wait patiently. I was the last one - smart move actually! I thank Eric for playing, had the usual chit-chat, and asked him to sign my cd. He said yes, and asked what my name was. When I replied "Edith," he said, "Oh like Edith Piaf?" and I said yes, that was who I was named for. He looked me dead in the eyes and said "Great name!"
Ok - can I just turn into a puddle NOW???
I hugged him, kissed his cheek - another YAY -- and managed to get 2 pics with him.
I actually used up most of a roll of film tonight, and should any turn out worthy, I will send them along!
I cannot say enough about this man.
Run - Don't Walk - Go See Eric!
You'll thank me, and I in turn, have to say once again - Thank You Tammy. Because of you, tonight truly ROCKED!!!
