Hi Sardinas fans,

I was just introduced to Eric Sardinas' music (and amazing talent) only 10 days ago. On Wednesday July 14 Eric played a small club in Marshalltown, Iowa. This venue called "Back Alley Blues" is located in the basement of an old building. Capacity for this club is about 300. There might have been 200 attending. Cover charge for the night was $5.

I have to apologize as I'm not very familiar with E.S.'s original material yet, and my memory is a bit fogged from the refreshments of the night, but I'll try and describe the set list as best as possible, at least the highlights.

Eric opened with a killer jam and went into Johnny Winter's "Hustled in Texas." I remember he also did "Get Along Little Rider," "Murdering Blues" (AKA "Going Down to Ely's"), "Can't Be Satisfied," "I Wonder Who," "Come on in My Kitchen," and -- the highlight of my night -- "Bullfrog Blues" done Rory Gallagher style. Along the way Eric did several more jams, some tunes from
Black Pearls and a few other originals.

Sorry for not knowing the drummer and bassists names, but they each did a kick ass job all night.

One of the coolest things is how friendly all three of them were.

The only time the dobro caught fire was while Eric was playing, I think the size and low ceilings of the venue prohibited him from actually lighting up his guitar.

An amazing show and I hope that one day we will hear Eric with the same frequency and admiration that SRV had. When he died, SRV was definitely influencing music in a positive direction. I think Eric Sardinas can do the same.

I've got
Black Pearls and Treat Me Right, but have heard through one of the other I'net groups that I belong to that Devil's Train might be the best one. I intend to buy them all, but want to know which to go for next.

Understanding that musical preferences are highly personal, I have to state that Rory Gallagher stands at the pinnacle of my favorite guitarists, but I know that Eric Sardinas will be able to climb that Mount Olympus and join my other guitar heroes.

best,

Ron
