show review by DAVE CARSON

Please allow me to tell a story that happened to me at The Rave Eagle's Club in Milwaukee WI on April 12th 2005. (My First Time).

I got tickets for a buddy of mine from work and I to see Steve Vai. I had no clue who the opening act was, and to be honest, didn't care. We were very close to the stage (fortunately a fairly large venue -- I agree that Eric & band worked it, like a small club cannot be worked ). So, before the show started my pal & I were yappin' about how we hope the opener only plays a quick set and gets the hell off the stage so Vai can have a quicker start…

and thennnnnnnn…

Eric Sardinas took center stage with that evil damn dobro of his! Let's just say 20 seconds into the first song my buddy and I looked at each other for a quick second, just long enough for him to yell 'this guy rocks,' and me to yell 'fu**kin seasoned professional, dude, blues tradition or not this guy is a f**kin rock star!!!!!'

So, there we both were, two within a crowd, eating humble pie, thinking 'Whoaaaaaa, I hope this guy plays all damn night... who cares that I just got done working a 12-hour shift on my feet all day since 5 am… and that now we must stand to enjoy rockin' out & feeling the delta vibe pour out of this wild man on stage… Not me, that's for damn sure!!!'

So Eric & company do their thing for the first set and it gives us all (especially those of us that had no clue who or what was going to happen when we saw " W / Guest Eric Sardinas" on our stupid concert tickets) a short break to recover from the friggen' shock!!!! Then out they come for the next set, of course you already know the program: the shirt is off, the cool tattoos are showing & the sweat has room to fly along with the beer all over his dobro & the first few rows of fans... & of course Eric came out into the crowd (wayyyy out to the back of the room all around the whole venue) so close we had to get out of his way after he jumped to the floor so he could strut his stuff for the ladies & jam like a man who made a deal with someone ya ain't supposed to make any deals with, for us guys.

You know the rest. We all said, "holy hell that guy was great!" and the next day new fans woke up, or came to, or whatever they needed to do. Fact is, it seems as if all of our first times when seeing Eric live are damn near the same no matter how different -- we all say 'Whoaaa' & feel good in knowing that real music is not only still alive, it is still growing.

Ok, all ass-kissing aside. THE MAN ROCKS! So here I am tryin' to learn more about Eric & waiting 'til I have the chance to see him again . After all the yappin' I have done about him, even my lady wants to come with us this time.  So, hope the wait will not be long, but I hope the show can maybe be longer??? I will be checking the tour dates all the time… You are all correct, this band is meant for the big lights & a good size crowd… but ya must admit, it sure is great being close to the stage?

Ok all done… & so what, I was long winded  (I know it takes me and hour to tell a five minute story), but ya sure as hell get the point & can see the picture I paint when I am done. So, 'be well' to all that read this.
